So the short answer is that all life on earth would not end, it would actually grow with more vigor. Actually, to really throw the cat amongst the pigeons and get some animated conversation going, I think that the idea that man is capable of destroying the earth is highly arrogant and misleading. We are capable of upsetting many ecosystems and causing the extinction of many animals and we can make many parts of the world miserable to live in, but take us out of the equation once the worst damage has been done and ecosystems will bounce back quite happily- not exactly as it was before, but then nothing is ever as it was before.
