So, why do we celebrate All My Life Reaper Horse Shirt when we do? Well, because in Rome, those were the Saturnalia days aka feasting the Winter Solstice. Work was prohibited on those days – in fact, those were the days when masters were supposed to serve to their servants. Early Christians needed some justification to be feasting with the others. As there was no set canon of Gospels – so the story in Matthew was not even obligatory – and hardly anyone ever knew the true date of Jesus birth.
